What Is The Bronx Anarchist Fair?

The Bronx Anarchist Fair is a public event for people in our neighborhoods to learn and share with each other about how to make grassroots change. We come together to celebrate the Bronx’s history of resistance and resilience, and share practical tools for anti-authoritarian organizing and action.

Three Weeks Until the Bronx Anarchist Fair

in

We're three weeks out from the Bronx Anarchist Fair, and things are coming together!

The organizing collective is still getting together the lineup of workshops and events for the day-of, but a preliminary schedule is available in the meantime. It'll give you a rough idea of what's going on April 4th.

The organizing collective also bulked up the About section of the site in response to some feedback we've been getting through the contact form. It now includes a section on What Is Anarchism? and another on Who's Organizing This?.

Also, fliers for the Fair have been posted on the left sidebar. Feel free to download these, print them, post the images to your Facebook and Myspace--basically go nuts! So far there are English and Spanish versions of the quartersheet flier, and a full-sheet flier for the Really Really Free Market.

Out Flyering

in

Folks from the organizing collective were out flyering today on 138th & Brook!

We distributed about 100 bilingual quarter-sheet fliers for the fair, and got in some good conversations along the way. Pretty soon, we will upload digital versions of all the flyers to the website, so people can view and download Bronx Anarchist Fair outreach materials whenever they like. Check the sidebar (it'll be there soon.)

If you saw us out in the South Bronx today or got a flyer, hit us up with some comments!

Location, Location, Location

in

The Bronx Anarchist Fair will take place in Brook Park, a large park and garden on Brook Ave and 141st st. Brook Park has a large open field (good for big tents) on one side, and a beautiful communal fire pit, raised beds, cherry blossoms and a couple weeping willow trees on the other.

Brook Park is maintained by Friends of Brook Park, a coalition of local folks who've run kickass programming out of the space for years. The park has played host to gardening classes, holiday parties, community mulching days and a slew of other programs, and is known as a vibrant center of community building in the South Bronx. It's a distribution site for the Inydpendent, and is right around the corner from Casa Atabex Ache.

There are several other community gardens in the area too, including Padre Plaza and El Girasol. They facilitate a range of community activities, from harm reduction programs to construction sites for casitas and places for kids to play.

Put together, these green sites constitute a network of autonomous spaces, where our communities can develop new ways of working together and fighting the systems that keep us down.

Applications for folks interested in tabling and/or vending at the Bronx Anarchist Fair are now available under the "Tables & Vendors" menu.

The organizing group is working on getting one together in PDF format too, so folks can type in the submissions fields. In the meantime: cut, paste and email!
